Scribbles
Well, 5 year-old Alex launched his business, Alex's Scribbles, on Friday the 19th April 1996.Cr Paul Pisasale, Chairman of the Ipswich City Council's Global Info-Links project was there to talk about the future impact of the Internet on business. He called young Alex up to join him so that he could get some help from an old hand. Alex was more interested in showing off the badge that the Australian Koala Foundation had given him. The Australian Koala Foundation are his business partners in his first commercial product the Koala trouble t-shirt.
At the end of a very entertaining show put on by both Cr Pisasale
and young Alex, the young man did away with convention and instead of shaking the Councillor's hand said, "Give me five."
The Councillor was only to happy to co-operate and with a loud smack they both left the stage so that the Deputy Mayor of Ipswich, Cr Denise Hanley, could officially launch Alex's Scribbles.
Deputy Mayor Denise Hanley talked about the opportunity that
Alex would have in the future by being involved at a young age in web building and building a global network of contacts and
friends.
Young Alex came up to the stage to receive the official registration of his business, Alex's Scribbles, and a cheque of $500 in recognition of his fantastic work on the Internet from Global Web Builders, an Ipswich based web building company.
The Executive Director of the Australian Koala Foundation,
Deborah Tabart, gave an excellent talk on the koalas who live in the Australian bush. Deborah described how the koalas
environment is increasingly under threat from humans and outlined the important role that the non-profit organisation plays.
After the formalities were over Alex was introduced to the
Australian Koala Foundation's big Koala "KD". KD was absolutely gorgeous prancing around before he could be stopped and
asked to join Alex in a group photo. From left to right: Deputy Mayor Denise Hanley; K.D.; Alex;s Dad, Scott; Alex showing off the Alex's Scribbles
business registration; Cr Paul Pisasale Chairman of Global Info-Links; Deborah Tabart the Executive Director of the Australian Koala
Foundation and Alex's mummy, Viv.
It was time to have a group photo next to Alex's Scribbles cake.
In this picture (from left to right) Deputy Mayor Denise Hanley, Cr Paul Pisasale, Alex (the young businessman),
Scott (Alex;s Dad) and Deborah Tabart executive director of the Australian Koala Foundation posed by the enormous
cake.
It was now time for the business partners, Alex from Alex's Scribbles and Deborah Tabart of the Australian Koala Foundation,
to cut the official Alex's Scribbles cake. It was so yummy with lots of icing!!!
Within a very short period of time the whole cake had been eaten! We still suspect that KD the koala had a role to play in this, although spunge cake can't taste much like eucalyptus leaves..
Oh well, the mystery of the disappearing cake remains..
There again, maybe not, as the camera never lies and there is young Alex with his mouth full of Alex's Scribbles cake.
Hmmm... will we ever know the answer?
It was nearly time to go home so Cr Paul Pisasale; Alex and
K.D. posed outside the Barry Jones auditorium at the Ipswich Global Information Centre under the big globe.
Cr Pisasale helped K.D. hold Alex's new business certificate while holding Alex as well.. a big task well done (I know that you will agree).
After everybody else had gone home Alex posed in a nearby park
with his Mummy, Daddy and bigger sister Heather.
Now really what DID happen to all that cake... was it K.D., Alex, maybe Alex's daddy or one of the Councillors?
You know what boys and girls?
I don't think that we will ever know the answer.. but K.D. the koala seemed to put on some weight!
